Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, quiet town. It is the West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a vast part that stretches from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel's hometown is often referenced, however her brief time in the city was not. Brugel grew up in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. Her first ambition was to be a dancer. But, a growing rate increased her height and she outgrew every dance partner she had. A Toronto Star article revealed she's 6ft 1in tall in heels. When I grew out of male companions at that point, I gave up. There are many dancers who make the move into acting. As for Bruce, it was her drama instructor who pushed her to go in this direction. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to take on a part in the school's annual production. The student tried it out, and eventually got the role of the main character in Anne of Green Gables. This led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and earned the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Brugel's career spans over 20 years and she's performed in more than 60 shows, both on big screens as well as smaller screens. Her most notable role was as Rita (pictured below) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian part of the cast in the season 1 of the series, and only appeared on occasion.
